2025 Youth Sailing Camp Announcement

The following sailing camps will be offered in 2025 at the New Roads Waterfront Pavilion and Pier.

June 9-13, Introduction to Sailing Camp 1

June 16-20, Introduction to Sailing Camp 2

July 7-11, Advanced Sailing Camp

If required, makeup sessions for any cancellations of the days or parts of days of the introduction to sailing camps due to adverse weather conditions will be scheduled during the week of June 23-27.

To register for the advanced sailing camp, participants have to have completed an introduction to sailing camp.

Applications for the camps will be available on this site during the first week in March.

Instructional Sailboats

Depending on the age and size of a camper, one of two instructional sailboats are used: Optimist Pram and Sunfish. The campers are organized into teams of two and jointly sail the appropriate instructional sailboat.

Restrictions and Benefits

Camps are offered to youths 8-17 years of age.

Each participant must provide their own lunch. Snacks and water will be available.

There is no cost to campers for participation in sailing camps.

Campers will be provided a textbook and water bottle at no cost. PFD’s will also be provided for use at no cost if needed.

Each camp is limited to 10 campers but a minimum of 6 campers is required. 2024 summer camp participants who did not complete the requirements for a “beginning sailor” certificate will be given registration priority for the introduction to sailing camps.

Participants must demonstrate the ability to swim 25 yards while wearing a PFD.

Participants are required to wear closed-toed, preferably lace-up shoes that are water-tolerant.

Participants should bring a backpack with a change of clothes and a towel daily.
